5 Uncommon Ways To Improve Fiverr Sales

One of our followers Abdullahi Bello on TikTok left a comment on one of my videos expressing concern about his Fiverr Gig performance, which inspired this post.

It is quite difficult to find any new insights on this topic of improving Fiverr Gig performance and potentially making more sales, all the advice you get is pretty standard stuff that you probably already tried.

My goal with this blog post is not to regurgitate the same old generic advice you typically get but to give you an in-depth, fresh perspective, and new actionable strategies to truly improve your Fiverr gig performance, stuff that has personally worked for me over 7 years of freelancing on Fiverr.

To make sure I deliver on this bold promise,  I’m going to list the usual stuff down here so we get it out of the way

  • Use a clear and professional profile picture
  • Review your gig title
  • Optimize your gig description with the right keywords
  • Optimize your bio to be more compelling
  • Optimize your gig samples

Now that we have all of these “same old same old” tactics out of the way, let’s explore other ingenious ways to improve our Fiverr gig.

I have broken things down into 3 sections:

i. Understanding The Dynamics Of Fiverr Gig Performance

ii. Uncommon Strategies To Improve Your Fiverr Gig

iii. Conclusion

I. UNDERSTANDING THE DYNAMICS OF FIVERR GIG PERFORMANCE

Before we explore the Uncommon strategies for improvement, it is crucial to grasp the factors influencing your Fiverr gig’s performance, this lack of understanding is what tanks your Fiverr account and gigs in the first place. Most freelancers especially beginners fail to realize that Fiverr is not “set-and-forget”, the platform employs a complex algorithm that considers various elements to determine the visibility and success of your gig.

Your account is continuously rated based on how well you do with COMMUNICATION, PROJECT COMPLETION, and SPEED OF DELIVERY

The game is to keep your stats at 100% at all times to have the best chance at visibility

To help you accomplish this goal, these are factors to consider:

1. Gig Relevance:

This refers to the alignment of your gig with the client’s search terms and needs. Everything you do when setting up your gig should make it easy for you to fall into the right category and easy to find.

Example: Say you are a singer, and you are a male, people who need your services may not just need “A SINGER” they might need a “MALE SINGER” specifically, so you want to find a way to squeeze that into your gig titles and descriptions so that you show up not just when a buyer does a search for “SINGER” but also when they search “MALE SINGER”.

The idea is to be found quickly by the right person to whom your services will be most relevant.

Another thing that helps is carefully selecting your category and tags (as well as negative tags if you are on Seller Plus, more on this later) when setting up your gigs, this is such an important factor to help get your gig discovered by the right clients, yet most people don’t put much thought into it.

Go back into your gig setup and review what categories you have selected, and see if you can try different, more relevant categories because this is such a huge factor in increasing your Fiverr impressions, and also closing more sales.

2. Customer Satisfaction:

Positive reviews, completion rates, and timely deliveries contribute to a higher ranking. This is one of the major factors that influence Gig ranking on the search page. Work double time and use every ethical strategy you can to keep your customers satisfied and earn you those 5-star reviews.

One tactic I use is to offer samples of my work before a client even makes a purchase, this gives me time to analyze their initial reaction to my work and based on that I decide whether or not to proceed, if I sense dissatisfaction, I pull the plug on the project. This seems like a lot of work which it is, infact I won’t advise it if you work directly with clients maybe through your own website where there is no ranking system, I solely do this on Fiverr as an investment to my account, and it has paid off over the years, I have hardly fallen below 97% on any of the stats, and also, I have hardly had any negative experiences, I use the gig samples as a “value-added service,” when I tell clients it’s free, they are blown away, and immediately gravitate towards me and remain loyal customers going forward.

The above tactic is my secret weapon, it is not for everyone of course, it requires you to start working before any guarantee of payment, which doesn’t sound like fun and it isn’t, but it is one of my “not-so-common” strategies and it works for me. You don’t have to adopt it, but you can think up ways to do a little bit more than the competition to achieve customer satisfaction.

3. Gig Completion / On-Time Completion:

Yes, you may not be getting a lot of gigs at the moment (how you delivered your previous projects may well be one of the reasons why), but if and when you do, deliver way before the time you said you would deliver, one way to make sure you do this is to add in enough time for contingency. If your job takes 2 days to complete, say you will do it in 4 or 5 days, so when you deliver in 2 days, you not only impress your clients, you also impress the Fiverr algorithm. Successfully completing orders and delivering quality work on time enhances your gig’s performance.

4. Communication Skills:

I can’t emphasize this one enough, one of the warnings I got on Fiverr was due to this, I lost my temper with a client and it caused a whole issue that almost saw me booted out of the platform. Keep your emotions in check, be professional, if you don’t know how to communicate professionally, learn, follow communication experts, there are tons of them, and watch YouTube Videos on the subject. Prompt and effective communication with clients positively influences your gig’s success.

The above section is important because staying at 100% on all your Fiverr stats is what the whole game is about, and if you have a new account starting at 100, now you know not to let it drop, and if you have been freelancing for a while and your stats have dropped, now you know there is a direct correlation between those stats and your gig performance. Thankfully, you can get your account back to 100% on every metric, which is what the next section is about.

II.   UNCOMMON STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE YOUR FIVERR GIG

1.  ON-PLATFORM ADVERTISING:

I used to get tons of messages and orders, especially when I first hit “Top Rated”, but shortly after, I started to notice a sharp decline in my Gig performances, which could be attributed to my first increase in price. That was when I first tried Fiverr promotions, and sure enough, I saw an increase in performance again. After a few months I turned it off just for experimental purposes and I noticed my gigs were still doing well like they used to, without the promotions. I get more gigs than I can handle monthly with or without promotions yet I have set the ads, and forgotten them, just to give me that extra competitive edge, I invest $20 to $30 monthly on Fiverr promotions.

When your Fiverr gigs are not performing as they used to, it might be time for some offensive moves, the first thing that comes to mind is good old advertising, and the best place to do it is right on the platform.

Sadly many Fiverr freelancers consider it a waste of time and money or even tacky to run Fiverr Ads, I have tried them personally, and I think it is a great tool to take advantage of, if you make at least $100 a month on the platform, my advise will be to spend $5 to $10 on Fiverr ads, nothing too crazy, if you earn more, you can do $1 a day, so $30 a month or more depending on your risk tolerance level.

Fiverr promotions are crazy easy to set up while giving you maximum results, no need to fiddle with complex Ads Manager settings, and funding it is also easy, as it is automatically drawn from your monthly earnings.

Keep in mind that this does not guarantee crazy results though, but what it does guarantee is a lot of impressions and a better chance at increased sales which is what we want.

A lot of the Pros want you to believe that they are doing it all through their hard work and exceptional talent, while this may be true, it often is only half the story, a majority of them are putting back a fair bit of their earnings into advertising, every profitable business does, and you should consider adopting this strategy too.

2. OFF PLATFORM ADVERTISING:

Just like the previous strategy, we need to take advantage of advertising our gigs outside of Fiverr, and when I speak of advertising off of Fiverr I am not talking of Facebook and Google Ads, in fact, I will say DO NOT EVER RUN FACEBOOK, GOOGLE, OR INSTAGRAM AD CAMPAIGNS TO YOUR FIVERR GIG! And I’m going to tell you why and what you should do instead.

WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER RUN FACEBOOK ADS TO FIVERR

  • Fiverr’s Terms Of Service:

While they only mention not to run “Google Ads” in  Fiverr’s Terms of Service, it does hint that they might not be cool with the idea of running Ads off the platform, since it is not categorically stated to run external Ads of any kind (and yes I did go through the entire thing), but Google Ads are not allowed, that could mean that they only have an issue with google, but then again it’s best to stay away from external Ads.

I have seen some sellers on the Official Fiverr Community forum say that they ran Facebook Ads and it was fine, I have personally never tried and won’t advise it, however if you want to try Facebook or Instagram Ads, don’t direct traffic straight to Fiverr, send them to your website or landing page first where you talk about your Fiverr services and from there they can head on to your Fiverr Gig to purchase.

  • You Might Be Running Ads For Someone Else:

I don’t think it makes any sense to run Facebook, Instagram, or Google Ads to your Fiverr gigs because think about it, it is a marketplace that you do not own and does not house your gigs alone, there is every chance that more than half of the traffic you pay to bring will end up buying from another seller on the platform, which makes it a fruitless endeavor in my opinion. If you must run paid Ads, it will be best to do it on Fiverr where you know for sure that Fiverr itself will be pushing your gigs right on the platform, then if you have your own website or social media channels where you sell your services and have a lot more control (which I highly recommend) you can run Ads to those coz it’s your property and you reap the full benefits.

HOW TO ADVERTISE OFF-PLATFORM FOR FREE:

As we have established, running paid Ads is not the best idea for Fiverr, what to do instead is to try and drive traffic organically. As you already know, this is easier said than done, takes way longer and there are little to no guarantees, even with paid ads there are no guarantees let alone organic, but I promise you it is well worth the effort.

Start creating an online presence on any social media platform of choice that resonates with you, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube are absolute gold mines for content marketing right now.

Another place that is so underrated is Quora.com

This single answer I gave on a Quora post quite a while ago has gotten over 8k views and I have had clients who mentioned that they found my Fiverr account from this post. Get on Quora, answer questions about your services, do it intentionally and plugin your Fiverr gig in a way that feels natural and not salesy, do this multiple times and on multiple posts and other people’s questions, could even be potential clients’ questions. People forget that Quora, like Wikipedia, tends to rank highly on Google search, so technically Quora is free Google Ads.

I also recommend joining Fiverr Facebook Groups, but be careful of the ones you join, don’t go trading reviews, you hardly get caught but if you do, kiss your account goodbye, there are some where they share ideas on how to ethically grow your account, collaborate and share profit, refer clients to one another, and even buyers directly find sellers on there, those are fine to join.

The Official Fiverr Community is a place you want to join in your downtime as well, not to directly get clients, but you can get a lot of experience and knowledge from other sellers there.

Now all of these seem like a lot of work, and it is, but the reason I think most people fail on Fiverr and at freelancing in general is because they often think it is easy, nothing worthwhile is.

3. SIMPLIFY YOUR DESCRIPTION & SERVICE OFFERING:

Look into your service offerings and description if you are not getting orders because it is one of the most important determinants of closing sales. Many people just cram their gig description full of Keywords, but that is not what drives sales, clarity does. You don’t need to write a whole epistle when describing what you do, keep it simple and easy to understand.

If you offer 3 levels of your service, tell the potential buyer exactly what they get on each package, and let the price correlate to the value as well. Make it make sense.

This one sounds like one of the “same old, same old” strategies I know, but I had to include it because I have personally tried it and it worked, the gig description of my best performing gig was loaded with words, and now I’ve cut it down to exactly 182 words (you can count).

The cliche advice you often get is to “Optimize your gig description”, well that doesn’t exactly say how, What I am telling you is “Simplify it”, and make it clear and easy to understand, buyers usually don’t have time to read through a long epistle, they are often browsing through other seller’s pages, and the one that goes straight to the point, is easy to understand and memorable wins. KEEP IT SIMPLE!

4. STEAL SUCCESSFUL FREELANCER’S STRATEGIES

Coming from a strong marketing background, I instinctively did this in the early stages of my freelancing on Fiverr. Stealing is a pretty strong word but the idea is to visit a ton of top-rated and Pro Seller pages in your niche especially but also generally because if they are top, they must be doing something right. See what you can learn from them, what their title and description are like, what their profile pictures, gig images, and samples look like, what’s the average pricing in your niche, etc.

Be careful not to copy what they do verbatim (especially their gig description), you might be punished by Fiverr for that, but even if you are not, you don’t want to be a copycat, or imagine a buyer just checked out a pro seller’s gig and then checked yours next and you have the same description as theirs, word for word, the buyer will know that you were the one who copied and that lack of originality will surely destroy your account, so never copy, rather let them be an inspiration, a guide, and nothing more.

5. GIG VIDEOS WILL DOUBLE YOUR GIG PERFORMANCE

Making a gig video where you speak to your potential clients is such an underrated strategy that so many people neglect, it does not even have to be too fancy or overly creative, just a simple 30-second talking head video can uplift your gig.  It creates a sense of professionalism, and authenticity, builds deeper connection, and trust.

I put off making one for such a long time, but when I did, I instantly noticed a difference in impressions and clients who came with so much confidence in my skills like they already knew me or worked with me before, simply because I introduced myself in a video rather than plan boring text that anyone could have written.

6. TRY FIVERR SELLER PLUS

I have been trying this relatively new feature for a few months now, and just like promoted gigs, I think it is one way to give your Fiverr gig a much-needed nitrous boost.

This feature is not available to everyone but if you do have access to it, take advantage, it’s well worth the $20 to $29 monthly subscription fee for the two tiers Fiverr offers (you can cancel and resume your subscription at any time).

You get perks like:

  • Seller Success Manager
  • Access to Advanced Analytics
  • Access to Coupons
  • Access to Seller Plus events
  • Financial benefits (faster payout)

You can read more about the Fiverr Seller Plus Program here. All of these give you an unfair advantage in the Fiverr marketplace, but then again to have access to this, your account would most likely be performing fairly well, which kind of makes it counter-intuitive and that’s why I left it for last on the list as a bonus point.

The point I’m trying to push across is if and when you can, try to leverage tools and programs on the Fiverr platform to improve your Gig performance, most people have access to these features, but they never try them and wonder why their gigs and performing badly, it is only natural that people who are pushing their gigs anyway possible will get the juiciest parts before anyone else.

CONCLUSION

We ignored the regular advice on this subject but remember that they are still very valid, and you should do all of those basic stuff, the 6 points I shared are just taking it deeper and further into what has practically worked for me.
