Gone are the good o’l days when people think of freelancing as a side hustle, something you could not really make much money from.
I can remember the early days of freelancing sites, for instance, on Fiverr site where people signed up and started offering their services, the highest amount that one can be paid was five dollars and this discouraged a lot of creatives from being a part of the platform because the fee was too low for the amount of work they had to put in but over the years, freelancing has evolved and so as Fiverr too because now, one can be paid hundreds to thousands of dollars for a gig and that’s why freelancing is literally on everyone’s faces.
Your friend, neighbor, and even your relatives take up freelancing as a full-time job and while some do it as a side-hustle. One can boldly say that freelancing has taken over the world because of being social media managers to being bloggers, copywriters, transcribers, proofreaders, web designers, and lots more.
So, you might want to consider freelancing as a serious investment on your end because the world is changing and needless to say, if you have not been keeping up, you have and will be missing out on this world’s biggest treasure. Mind you, you do not have to sign in to freelancing websites before you can make some money to buy a cup of coffee, you can obtain freelance jobs from the people around you; like your friends and even ex-bosses. They can refer you to other people by spreading the word about your skills and capabilities and then you get new clients from the referrals who approach you with a project.
IS FREELANCING THE FUTURE?
To understand this, there are certain things we need to focus on. Although, there are several facts about freelancing, below are five reasons why I believe freelancing is the future, so take a deep breath and let’s dive right into it:
#. Independence
Freedom to be able to express yourself at work is something that many employees wish for. However, they haven’t been able to achieve their dream due to their work conditions but freelancing has been able to change this scene by providing the flexibility they need. This type of work allows a freelancer to establish their routines and working style. This may include schedules, tools, and lots more. As a result, freelancers can decide how much time and effort they can dedicate to their work. As a freelancer, being late to work is not a problem for you as you get to work at times that suit your schedule. In a future where workers work when they are ready to, jobs will be carried out efficiently.
#. More Income
Freelancing jobs come with more benefits and tend to pay more and higher than our regular jobs. In an industry filled with freelancers, the world is sure to experience a unique disruption in its work industry. People in the workforce can begin to earn more just by becoming freelancers. This provides them with enough income to use in boosting their experience and skill levels and also cater to their needs as well.
Also, freelancers stand a chance to work on as many jobs as they want and can handle. This part of freelancing has driven those in need of more jobs to dive into it and with them working as much as they want, they can earn more income than just working the regular 9-5 jobs.
#. Brands & Organizations Need Specialized Skill
Can you take some seconds to think about it, you will realize that every brand encounters those “one-off” projects or tasks that they need specialized help with and it’s way more time-efficient and financially smart for that organization to hire a freelancer as a contract worker, rather than getting a new employee that they have to train, and offer a salary and benefits to.
But if they go straight to the source and hire an expert freelancer who already knows what their onions are and they’re really good at it… then they’ll get their delivery faster and at less cost too.
Keep in mind that a lot of the time, these “one-off” projects will turn into a consistent gig, with a monthly paycheck, for the freelancers.
#. Nothing As Job Security
Job security is kinda a joke and freelancers seem to know this and if you’re a freelancer, you’re already more prepared for what’s to come.
#. Lesser Impacts And Threats From Artificial Intelligence.
Although several reports claim that soon, many jobs including freelancing jobs will be taken over by Artificial Intelligence. Yes, we can agree that AI is the next normal and some businesses have already started implementing AI and a lot of jobs are already threatened by this new boom but freelancing can not be affected because freelancers are humans and we need an emotional connection and they have the opportunity to connect with more people which AI can not do . Consulting expertise uses skills like creativity, judgment, planning, and resource management – skills AI cannot learn.
AI can’t possess and learn the various creativity each person has so instead of feeling threatened by this new development, freelancers can work with A.I. tools to generate quicker and better results for their clients. Freelancers are practiced at increasing competitive strengths and adjusting to these sorts of shifts in the market and this is the reason AI doesn’t threaten this type of work.
