Google Sites is a free tool owned by Google to help users build a nice and effective website without any coding skills. It is very suitable for beginners or a novice who lacks technical expertise. You do not have to deal with the complexities of getting a domain name and hosting. Google Sites is also mobile-friendly. You also do not have to use WordPress and if you also do not have any knowledge of coding, that is also not a problem.
Google Sites allows you to build a website without bothering about hosting, Everything is hosted on Google but you are unable to get a domain name that is not unique, e.g. your name or business name but it can always be swapped out, you can always get a domain name and make it look more and make it look your own at the same time. Aside from that, the most important thing is to get visibility online and to own a website that allows clients to click on to buy your goods and services. This also helps you to create a presence online.
STEPS IN CREATING A GOOGLE SITES WEBSITE
First Step: Log onto https://www.sites.google.com
Log into your ‘Email Address’.
Second Step: Either click on ‘Start a new Site’ or you can click on ‘Template Gallery’ where you can select from the varieties of templates that you can start off your site on. It doesn’t matter what your niche is, you can always find your need.
Third Step: Click on any of the templates you desire. You’ll be directed to a page where you can see the website and you can start to make changes to make it yours.
Fourth Step: Start by changing the name to your preferred website name.
The next step is to change the image to your preferred image by clicking on ‘Change Image’ – ‘Upload Image’ or you can click on ‘Select Image’ and you will be directed to a page that looks exactly like the image below.
You can also search online for images and get an image that suits your brand. Afterward, you can start to customize, you can change texts and links too.
Fifth Step: You can start to input your services. You can change the image too by making it collapsible. Making your image collapsible means that once you click on the image, you have an arrow to click on to make changes. It directs you to elements for your customization.
Sixth Step: Once you are done with that page, click on another page which is ‘Services’, and start to customize that as well. On the right panel, click on pages and you can also directly visit each of those pages underneath from there too.
Google Sites helps with advertising and automatic updates.
Also if you click on ‘Insert’ before pages, you will see a number of features you can add to your page like;
- Text Box
- Images
- Embed[Parts of a different website you can add or a YouTube video]
- Drive.
Other Features include;
- Changing the layout of each page with Image Carousel.
- Maps.
- Docs.
- Slides.
- Forms.
- Sheets.
- Tasks.
- Calendar.
- Button.
As earlier stated, Google Site is very good because you do not have to bother with hosting and domain. If you would like to Preview your site after you are done customization, click on Preview Site
You can now be able to view what your site will look like once you have it published. You can also click on other pages and see what your site looks like too. You can also preview what your website will look like on your mobile phone or on your laptop.
If you are done with the customization and you like how it looks and feels, you can click on Publish. Remember, you can always change the name e.g. Thebrimfactor.com and it won’t have the prefix sites.google.com/view/thebrimfactor because the only downside to this is that it won’t look very professional and everyone can tell you built your website with Google Sites. That is not a deal breaker because the website can be used for a while and if you want to make it more professional and you also want to hide the fact that it was built on Google Sites, you can simply get yourself a Custom Domain name.
